Footsteps of Truth

“Walk in His paths”

Footsteps of Truth on the pathway to LifeHave you ever followed someone in deep snow? Stepping into the footsteps already made makes the path easier to follow. You can create your own steps, but what happens? It’s easier to teeter and stumble as you struggle to move onward. So it goes when following the footsteps of Truth. Each step in the path already provided is much easier.

Deepening our understanding of God, Truth

Firstly, following the path of Truth is about deepening your love and understanding of God, divine Truth — it’s not about dogmatic conformity, nor is it about being tied to a humanly created creed. Truth, being God, is all-Truth and is infinite. So following the footsteps of Truth is about following God’s leading and God’s goodness.

As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.
—Psalms 17:15

Healing is the key

Secondly, taking a step toward God is always about healing. By understanding God we naturally learn more about ourselves as God’s loved children and this uplifts and heals us. This understanding removes sickness, sin, and the fear of death. Learning about ourselves as God’s image and likeness leads us to better things, wonderful ideas, and it transforms us. Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer of Christian Science, defined Jesus’ system of healing in an understandable and practical way in her work Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. This work  defines the healing principles of Jesus’ Christianity — Christian Science.

Jesus acted boldly, against the accredited evidence of the senses, against Pharisaical creeds and practices, and he refuted all opponents with his healing power.
—Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health, p.18

The Master-plan

Christ Jesus made it clear that he was the way. Is Jesus the way just because he said so? No. He was the way because of the way he lived — through his healing deeds, his compassionate example, and his ultimate triumph over death. He showed us [proved to us] as every amazing scientist does, he outlined his experiment, showed us why his Christly hypothesis (that he could not die) and conclusion (his resurrection and ascension) matched. This is why we know we can follow his steps toward divine Truth, and his example of Truth being lived in everyday life. This is exactly what Mrs. Eddy aimed to do — she made it clear Jesus’ example is the Master-plan. Jesus’ example wasn’t pie-in-the-sky thinking. Rather Jesus proved the Christ, Truth, is our very source of Life. Eddy proved in her own life that through Christian healing we understand that Truth’s power is practical, useful, and ever-present.

Late in the nineteenth century I demonstrated the divine rules of Christian Science. They were submitted to the broadest practical test, and everywhere, when honestly applied under circumstances where demonstration was humanly possible, this Science showed that Truth had lost none of its divine and healing efficacy, even though centuries had passed away since Jesus practised these rules on the hills of Judæa and in the valleys of Galilee.
