Hear God through sounds of goodness

Just taking time to hear the Word of God is a health-giving antidote to any difficulty you might face or feel. You can listen online to sermons, you can go to church, or you can listen on your MP3 player or smart phone, you can even read the Word.

Yet, God’s word is even closer than your Bible or your phone. Firstly, God made “man in His image and likeness (Genesis 1:26).” Being the image and likeness of God means we’re actually God’s reflection — or the manifestation of God’s appearance and activity. Does this make us God? No. It means we’re part of God, like a ray of light is what makes the sun visible, but is not the sun itself.

Another way the Bible tells us that God’s Word is right at hand is in this statement:

This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel after that time,” declares the Lord. “I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. No longer will they teach their neighbor, or say to one another, ‘Know the Lord,’ because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest,” declares the Lord.
—Jer 31:33-34 NIV

We can rest assured that God’s Word is written in the very tablet of our being — in our minds and hearts. And if you can define good, love, etc — you know what God is. God is these things—and you know God if you’re actively expressing God when you feel peace, joy, love, goodness, and so on. Similarly, you can hear God if you know what to listen for. God gives us ideas and direction that express and lead toward goodness, health, harmony, purity.

Listen for these ideas. Sometimes they come from other people, or music. But often they come right into your mind and you can even hear it although it may quiet and still. You’ll know the sound of goodness because the direction you get from God is good, and you’ll know it’s God leading you forward because God only leads toward good and healthy activities.
